Mrs. Thomas

Kathryn (Kathy) Thomas, Principal, brings with her to Hamilton Elementary 30 years of educational experience both in the classroom and as an instructional leader. A graduate from Arizona State University, Kathy began her educational career as French teacher in Southern California, and later moved to Northern California with her husband and two sons to teach English.  After earning her Masters in Education from University of Southern California, Kathy moved into leadership and administrative work specializing in serving the needs of special populations, specifically working with English Learners and special programs at the district level in Campbell, CA. Missing working with teachers and students at the site level, as well as the Chico area, she and her husband moved back to their Magalia home to be a part of Hamilton Unified School District family.

  • Don't forget to mark your calendars for the Winter concert, December 5th, and the Christmas Program, December 6th. We are excited to provide students with the opportunity to perform for parents and the community. Please note: 6-8 students are volunteering this year to participate with a variety of different options to ensure that their program practice does not impact their homework and instructional support period (also known as Wolf Time). If you would like to ensure that your child participates, please be sure to contact the office so that we can be sure they are signed up for one of the performance options.

  • Carnival Fun at HES

Posted by Kathryn Thomas on 10/31/2018

The HES Carnival was a huge success. We needed extra candy one hour in, and the community turned out in force to support our classes in providing authentic foods for all: Pozole, Buneulos, Tacos, and the list goes on. PTO was a huge support and a huge SHOUT out to all of the parents who helped.

This school year we are starting something new. We now have the GOLDEN BOOT which is awarded to the classroom that diligently follows the safety procedures during our drills. Students are expected to line up quietly, follow directions, face the fence during attendance, and remain quiet and in line to return to class. We've had two recipients so far this year: Shout out to  Mrs. Phelps' 6th grade class and Mrs. Hernandez' 2nd/3rd grade class. Thank you students and teachers.

  • 8th grade Promotion

Posted by Kathryn Thomas on 6/1/2018 10:10:00 AM

Forty-seven eighth graders crossed the stage for Hamilton Elementary School’s eighth grade promotion ceremony at Hamilton High School on May 31st. Alex Wilson and Ashley Martinez opened the evening with the Pledge of Allegiance, and Student Body President, Alexis Villegas, welcomed parents, staff, and students along with her translator, 8th grader Karina Puente. Salutatorian, Ana Araceli Orzco, addressed the students with a nostalgic speech, taking her cohort through shared memories from their early Kinder years through the last year as 8th graders, translated by Sandra Rubio. Kent Thor, this year’s Valedictorian, inspired all attendees with his poignant words centered on the class theme of the importance of being oneself. The speech was seamlessly translated by Gloria Hernandez, also the recipient of the Academic Excellence Awards. Eighth grade student, Carmen Ortiz, was the recipient of this year’s Gerald Tippping award, an award presented to a student who attended Hamilton Elementary for all nine years and selected by teachers for outstanding academic achievements. After Superintendent Tracy’s presentation of the class, the evening concluded with the Class of 2022 walking two by two to Tim McGraw’s “Humble and Kind.”

Posted by Kathryn Thomas on 4/24/2018

Academic Parent Teacher Teams are an important connection between home and school.  The Kindergarten team met with over 30 parents at the end of April to help improve student success.  Parents and teachers become a team, looking at individual students and their progress, making goals to help address any challenges and to continue supporting growth, and improving communication between parent and school. Shout out to all teachers involved in the APTT process and for continuing to fine-tune and imprpove the process.
