Google Workspace Core Services

These core services are provided under HUSD’s master contract with Google. They are ad-free, subject to strict FERPA/COPPA protections, and used daily for classroom instruction:

  • Google Gemini for Education (Staff & Approved Student Environments)

Approved Additional Google Consumer Services

The following consumer services are enabled for instructional research and learning. Commercial, financial, and unmoderated publishing features are disabled for student accounts under 18:

  • Applied Digital Skills
  • Google Arts & Culture
  • Google Bookmarks & Books
  • Google Earth
  • Google Groups (Internal Domain Restricted)
  • Google Maps & My Maps
  • Google News
  • Google Public Data
  • Google Translate
  • Programmable Search Engine
  • YouTube (Restricted Mode Enforced)

Note: Blogger, Chrome Remote Desktop, Data Studio (Looker Studio), FeedBurner, Google Alerts, Google Business Profile, Google Domains, and Google Pay are explicitly DISABLED for student accounts.


Approved Third-Party Digital Tools & Applications

The applications below have been audited by HUSD IT and approved for instruction. They are backed by active California Student Data Privacy Agreements (CA-NDPA / Exhibit E) or vendor privacy commitments guaranteeing student data is protected and never sold:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud Express for Education: Digital media creation and PDF utility tools. (Active CA-NDPA)
  • Canva for Education: Graphic design, visual presentations, and classroom media projects. (Active CA-NDPA)
  • Happy Numbers: Elementary mathematics learning and individual practice. (Audited Privacy Policy)
  • Savvas EasyBridge / Realize: District-adopted mathematics and core curriculum portal. (Master Contract & DPA)
  • School Day (CaliforniaStreaming): Educational video streaming and media resources. (Active CA-NDPA through Aug 2028)
  • Soundtrap: Audio production, music education, and podcasting. (Active CA-NDPA Exhibit E)

Google Workspace Marketplace Apps

Domain Installed Apps (Automatically Deployed)

  • Adobe Acrobat: PDF editing and document workflow tools.
  • Nearpod: Interactive assessment and classroom presentation engagement.
  • Sora by OverDrive: District digital library and eBook checkout portal.

Allowlisted Apps (Optional Install)

No optional Marketplace add-ons are currently open for general user installation. All requests must go through the IT DPA verification pipeline.


Applications Currently Under Privacy Review

The following tools are undergoing updated Data Privacy Agreement (CA-NDPA) execution prior to full classroom deployment:

  • StudySync: Under evaluation pending active DPA renewal for SY 2026–2027.
  • Pear Deck: Pending SDPC portal execution.
  • Zoom (Staff Only): Pending SDPC portal execution.

Unapproved Software & Zero-Trust Privacy Policy

To safeguard student personally identifiable information (PII) and protect district networks against malware or phishing risks, HUSD strictly enforces a Zero-Trust Application Access Policy:

  • Third-party tools requesting broad access to Google Drive or Gmail are blocked by default.
  • Unapproved crowdsourced file repositories (e.g., Teachers Pay Teachers) are restricted on district devices. Staff are provided sanitized "flat-copy" file protocols for approved offline materials.
  • Unsanctioned third-party AI extensions (e.g., OpenAI, Claude, MagicSchool AI) and third-party mail merge extensions are prohibited.
